Junita Boedeker Joachim passed away July 27, 2016 in New Braunfels, Texas, at the age of 85. She was born in Shiner on January 26, 1931 and later moved to Houston where she spent most of her adult life. Although her primary role was a homemaker, Junita worked several office jobs and later assisted her husband, Charlie, with his insurance business. Helping others always took center stage in Junita’s life. She served on a few committees at Faith United Methodist Church in South Houston. One ministry that was special to her was to shampoo and style the hair of the women residents at a local nursing home every Friday. In 1989, Junita and her husband, Charles “Charlie Jo” Joachim, moved to Coldspring where she continued to volunteer. Junita served on the Board of Directors at the Community Center and the Board of Directors at the Coldspring Area Library. She also served as President of the “Friends of the Library” and President of the Coldspring Garden Club. Junita served on the kitchen committee at Coldspring United Methodist Church, as well as others through her involvement with the United Methodist Women organization. Junita loved gardening and preparing feasts from the bounty of her hard work. Her love of fishing rivaled her passion for cooking and she always looked forward to entertaining her children, grandchildren, and friends at her Lake Livingston home. No crowd was too big for Junita to handle and she opened her home not only to her family, but also to the friends and relatives of her children. Her golden years were also spent traveling. Junita and Charlie toured many places both in the United States and abroad. She was eager to explore the foods, culture, and sights of every place she was able to visit…including the difficult climb of the Great Wall of China. In 2013, Junita hung up her apron and moved to Rio Terra in New Braunfels where she could let others do the cooking. Junita quickly made new friends and enjoyed playing dominoes, bunco, and Friday happy hour. While at Rio Terra, Junita also served as an advocate for Alzheimer’s Disease by raising money for the cause. Junita is survived by her brothers Martin Boedeker and Lester Boedeker, son Charles and wife Theresa, son Richard Mayer, son Kenneth Mayer and wife Sharon, daughter Marla Chaloupka and husband Brian, grandchildren Kristen Mayer, Erin Mayer, Kevin Chaloupka, and Lauren Chaloupka, and many nieces and nephews. Junita also left behind stepdaughter Vanessa Martin and husband Mason, stepdaughter Juli Bierman and husband Kevin, stepson Scott Joachim and wife Sandra, stepson Kyle Joachim and wife Shannon, and six stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Joachim, her parents, Fritz and Martha Boedeker, her sister Elrine Mayer, and her brothers Dennis Boedeker, and Fritz Boedeker, Jr. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer’s Association, San Antonio & South Texas Chapter, MAC 37 Building, 10223 McAllister Freeway, Suite 100, San Antonio, TX 78216.
