TThe fierce, stubborn and intensely loving matriarch of the Bierbaum clan was born January 3rd 1926 in the quaint town of Essex, Iowa. The only daughter of Hollie Knisley, of Shenandoah, Iowa and Ingrid Johnson Knisley, a Swedish born immigrant, they resided in Essex while Vera attended the Essex Community school.
Vera met and dated Norman Bierbaum while in school before moving with her Aunt in 1943 to work for General Cable, she made the wires that were installed into the WWII battleships in St. Louis, Missouri.
In 1944 Vera returned to Iowa, where her father Hollie, worked for Keiwit Construction out of Omaha, Nebraska. Hollie relocated the family to Sacramento California Air Force Base. Vera was one of the few women that drove a gravel truck that hauled boulders to San Francisco Bay to make way for the runways at the Air Force base. Once they completed their assignment in Sacramento, Hollie again, relocated the family to the Hutchinson Kansas Air Force Base. While in Kansas, Vera worked driving a large gravel truck, chiseled joints, and put in reinforcements in the front mixers that helped with the completion of the runways. She worked on the Kansas Air Force Base while acclaimed Hollywood Film Legend, Clark Gable was stationed there.
On November 18th of 1948, Vera Knisley, married Norman Bierbaum, a Navy Veteran, in Red Oak, Iowa. Vera and Norman began their farming career in the early 1950's until founding their very own dairy farm, the Triple B, in Red Oak, Iowa in the early 1960's. Vera and Norman raised their four children, Julie, Ronald, Larry and Connie in Red Oak until moving to Shenandoah, Iowa in 1975.
Vera entered into eternal rest on July 3rd 2016 in Villisca, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hollie and Ingrid Knisley, her husband Norman Bierbaum and her youngest daughter, Connie "Coo" Michael. She is survived by her daughter Julie Crowell of Shenandoah, Iowa and her daughter Kelly Crowell of Oakton, Virginia. Her son Ronald Bierbaum and Linda Mass of Red Oak, Iowa and his daughter and son-in-law, Robert and Stephanie (Bierbaum) Howard of Atlanta, Georgia, and son Dustin Bierbaum of Orange City Iowa. Son and Daughter-in-Law, Larry and Sandy (Larson) Bierbaum of Red Oak, Iowa, their two children , daughter and son in law Melissa Bierbaum and Rick Germar of Red Oak, Iowa and son and daughter-in-law Michael and Kris Bierbaum of Red, Oak Iowa.
She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Will and Braden (Sands) Mozingo of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Bridgett Sands of Red Oak, Iowa, Brandi Sands of Red Oak, Iowa, Emma Bierbaum of Red Oak, Iowa, great-great-grandaughter Racine Bierbaum of Red Oak Iowa and her honorary grandchildren, Nic and Tyler Terry of Red, Oak Iowa and Taylor and Bailey Hilger of Shenandoah. Vera is also survived by many other cousins, nephews, nieces, loved ones and friends.
Celebration of life funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home.
Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home.
Memorials may be directed to My Little Patient, Inc.
Burial will be held at the Essex Cemetery in Essex, Iowa.
