Mrs. Kruesel, 109, died Wednesday (Oct. 20, 2004) in Samaritan Bethany Heights Nursing Home in Rochester of natural causes.
Amelia Henrettia Sophie Maass was born Sept. 13, 1895, in Rochester. She quit school in eighth grade to help care for her siblings. In her late teens she worked as a nanny for the family of Edward Staff Judd, a Mayo Clinic pioneer doctor.
She married Elmer A. Kruesel on Sept. 26, 1917, in Rochester. She and her husband moved to a farm in Haverhill Township. Mr. Kruesel, who also worked for Rochester Dairy, died in 1985.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles and Scrabble, cooking and sewing. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Surviving are a son, Elmer (Dorothy) Kruesel of Rochester; a daughter, Phyllis (Wesley) Peterson of Hilmar, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 24 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edna Spika of Rochester.
She was also preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters, a daughter, a grandson and a great-grandson.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and an hour before the service at the church.
The family prefers memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church Christian Mission Outreach.
