The Patriot Guard Riders have been requested to help Escort Jennifer Metzler to her final resting place. Jennifer L. Metzler passed away in Gustine, CA at the age of 35.
Jen was always so charismatic! Known for her big blue eyes, contagious smile, one of a kind snort/laugh, and had a dream she could save the world. She was the most giving and easy going person we have all known.
She was engaged to Robert Ortiz (her true soul mate) before she passed away. She leaves behind not only Robert, but 2 beautiful boys named Jayden who is 6 yrs old, and Joel who is 5. She and Robert also had a daughter together named Kayla who just celebrated her 1st birthday a couple weeks ago. She survived by her 2 sisters, Sheri Huertas, and Heather Dunar, along with her parents Mark and Paula Metzler, her grandparents Merlin & Dorothy Metzler, along with Leo & Etta Pare.
Jen loved games! Everything from Bingo to cards (or as she would say " beating dads butt at cards") she never had a filter on her mouth, and mom alongside everyone else would always yell at her for it. Of course, she'll always be our "angel."
Jenny served in the Navy joining at the young age of 18. Then, after 2 tours in Iraq she switched over to running a boat for the US Coast Guard. She has received many medals and ribbons. (Please see attached paper headed "Jenny's Military History") We deeply appreciate Jenny's service and sacrifice to our country and want to be sure that it is known.
Friends can pay their respects on Monday, Aug. 22, 2016 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Committal and military rites will be on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016 at 10:30 AM at San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery in Santa Nella. Donations are preferred to the family of Jennifer c/o Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home.
Military History US Navy (2000-2004) Served as an Aviation Boatswain's Mate, Aircraft Handling (ABH). Primarily responsible for directing the movement and spotting of aircraft ashore and afloat; operating, maintaining and performing organizatinal maintenance on ground-handling equipment used for moving and hoisting of aircraft ashore and afloat; supervising securing of aircraft and equipment; performing crash rescue, firefighting, crash removal and damage control duties; performing duties in connectin with launching and recovery of aircraft.
Navy Decorations include: Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal Navy Unit Commendation Sea Service Deployment Ribbon x3 National Defense Service Medal Navy Good Conduct Medal US Coast Guard (2004-2013)
She also served as a Boatswain's Mate in the Coast Guard. A boatswain's mate (BM) is the most versatile member of the Coast Guard's operational team, and a master of seamanship. BMs are capable of performing almost any task in connection with deck maintenance, small boat operations, navigation, law enforcement and security operations. BMs operate hoists, cranes and winches to load cargo or set gangplanks, stand watch for security, navigation or communications and have general knowledge of ropes and cables, including different uses, stresses, strains and proper stowing.
Coast Guard Decoratins include: Coast Guard Achievement Medal Coast Guard Commandant Letter of Commendation w/ 1 Gold Star Coast Guard Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon Coast Guard Presidential Unit Citation Coast Guard Special Operations Service Medal w/2 Gold Stars Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal x 3.
Jenny and her family were very proud of her Search and Rescue efforts in both services.
