Dr. Jackie Hansen Hunt, 82, peacefully passed away on December 2, 2006 in her home in Mason County.

Dr. Hunt was born on November 28, 1924 in Stamford, TX to her Danish father Neils Hansen and her Scots-Irish mother Lora Blackstock Hansen. She grew up in the farming and ranching community of Ericksdahl in Jones County. She graduated from Texas Lutheran College in Seguin in 1943, attended the University of Texas in Austin and Tulane Medical School in New Orleans, LA where she met her husband, Dr. Lynn Hunt.

Jackie and her husband, Lynn began their medical practices in Odessa, TX in the early 1950's. Jackie set up her own practice in pediatric medicine. In the early 1960's, Jackie and her husband changed their fields of practice due to his heart condition and moved their three children to the Dallas area. Jackie completed her residency in anesthesiology at Parkland Hospital. She was in residency there when John F. Kennedy was brought in after his assassination and was interviewed in the Warren Commission Report. She continued to practice anesthesiology at Irving Community Hospital until she moved to Mason in 1987 to be near her daughter. Prior to her retirement, she practiced general medicine at the Mason Clinic for several years.

Jackie was a perceptive, thorough and caring physician who was loved and appreciated by all her patients and their families throughout her career and will be lovingly remembered by them.

Upon retirement, she built her home on her Llano River property in Mason County and planted trees and cared for her property which she loved. She loved photography and traveling. During her lifetime, she visited most of the United States as well as Canada, England, Scotland, Denmark, Sweden, parts of Europe on the Oriental Express, the Galapagos Islands and China. She was a member of AD Pi Sorority, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Riata Service Organization, The Mason Book Chics and was a big supporter of the Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library and participated in programs to teach English as a second language.

Dr. Hunt is survived by her daughter Lora Hunt of Mason, a son Dane Hunt and wife Katrina of Lewisville, a granddaughter Amanda Hilton, 2 sisters-in-law Fern Ballard and husband David of Stamford and Geraldine Young and husband Joe K. Young of Dallas. She is also survived by a niece Ann Stevenson and husband Randy of Arlington, 2 nephews Blake Hansen and wife Fannie of Odessa, Joe K. Young Jr. and wife Paige of Dallas and the following great-nieces and nephews, Matthew Stevenson, Lauren Hansen Niemann, Eric Hansen, Ashley Young, Avery Young, and Jake Young. Dr. Hunt was preceded in death by her husband Hubert Lynwood Hunt, Jr., a son "Trey" Hubert Lynwood Hunt III and a brother Johnny Hansen.

Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, December 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mason. Graveside services and interment will be on Friday, December 8, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery Near Stamford. Memorials in her honor may be made to the M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library.
