Helen Mae Krueger was born in Denison, Iowa, January 30, 1923, the daughter of Eldor and Helen Mae Malone Lehfeldt. She was raised in Denison where she graduated from high school with the class of 1941. Helen furthered her education at the American School of Commerce in Omaha, Nebraska, where she was a member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha, before graduating from Western Union School there as an Automatic Operator in 1943. Following her schooling until her marriage she was employed in Omaha.

On June 30, 1945, Helen was united in marriage with PFC Duane F. Krueger of the U.S. Marines at the First United Methodist Parsonage in Denison. Their union was blessed with two children, Keith and Cassandra. They made their home on the farm at Deloit and while Duane attended college at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Helen was employed in the college library. In 1958 they moved from the farm into Deloit and she was later employed at Anthony’s Department Store in Denison for eleven years. Duane died August 26, 1985, and Helen remained in their home in Deloit until 2004 when she moved to Denison.

She was a long time active member of the Methodist Church in Deloit and later in Denison and enjoyed a life long membership in the Deloit American Legion Auxiliary.
In her leisure time she loved making quilts, all done by hand, working puzzles, reading and walking, and was proud to have been a cancer survivor.
