William Henson Shorter, age 104, of Clarksville, passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2016.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home with Dr. Felts Dent officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until the hour of service.
A private family burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
William was born on May 29, 1912 in Valliant, Oklahoma, the son of Edgar and Mary Green Shorter. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Oneta Stewart and daughter, Doris Ann Hutchinson. William retired from the U.S. Army as a Master Sergeant and served during both the WWII and Korean War. At the time of his passing, William was the oldest Veteran in Montgomery County. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church.
He is survived by his sons, Samuel H. (Donna) Shorter and Henry P. Shorter; brother, Wallace Shorter; sister, Margie Stevenson; grandchildren, Lynne Hutchinson, Forrest Hutchinson, Michael Hutchinson, Carrie Shorter-Stevey, Eric Shorter, Liz Shorter, Natalie Folz, Tiffany Warrington, Kayce Susong, and Jacob Shorter; 13 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Aseracare Hospice.
The family would like to thank the staff members at Uffelman Estates, Walking Horse Meadows, and Aseracare Hospice.
