ALICE, Texas - Lee Monroe Osterloh, 89, passed away suddenly and peacefully on October 31, 2007 at his home in Alice, Lee was born on June 29, 1918 in Orange Grove, Texas, to Emil and Anna Osterloh. He was brought up on a farm with one brother and seven sisters. From his stories, his early life was a happy one, despite the significant portion of it occurring during the Great Depression. He graduated from Orange Grove High School and went immediately into the banking business as a clerk at the Farmers State Bank in Orange Grove where his brother, Max, was an officer. He married his beautiful wife, Ruby Falvella, a Kingsville native on May 1, 1941. Their early marriage, like so many at the time, was interrupted by Pearl Harbor and World War II. Lee entered the U.S. Army Air Force and participated in the India-Burma Theater of the war. After the war, Lee began his employment as an officer with the Alice National Bank, a tenure which lasted 36 years. He then accepted a position with the Bank of South Texas (later First City Bank) from which he retired as Senior Vice President in 1991, Lee (or "Obos" as his grandkids called him) had a great effect on many people over his lifetime, not only through his professional banking career, but his years as a little league coach, member of the Chamber of Commerce, member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and many other volunteer organizations. However, his greatest effect on people came through his infectious and zany sense of humor. Even to his last day he was joking, laughing and enjoying what life had given him. None of his family and friends will forget his love for fishing, dove hunting, barbecuing, and lively, joke-filled conversation. He passed these traits on to his children, Doug (Patsy) Osterloh and Suzanne (Donnie) Rehmet, both of Corpus Christi and his two grandchildren, Joseph Michael Rehmet and Lauren Lee Rehmet both of Austin. In his early years he taught his love of baseball to his son and daughter as well as his ability at horsemanship. He was a loving and caring grandfather, picking up his grandkids in their younger years every day after work to embark on some new adventure. He was a lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves and never missed one of their televised games. He knew baseball statistics and players of almost every major league team. Lee was a one-of-a-kind man and his passing leaves a great, gaping hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, three of whom, the Jochens, Osterlohs and Renkens were special close friends and great assistance to him throughout his life.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 3, 2007 and Sunday November 4, 2007 from 1 to 9 p.m. with family present on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be Monday, November 5, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alice. Burial will follow in Alice Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Roy Osterloh, Edsel Renken, Jimmy Jochen, Steven Geary, Steven Osterloh and Dean Hackfeld. Honorary pallbearers will be Dempsey Barr, Joe Sandoval, Norman DeReese, Herbert Hinze Jr., Lamar Hinze and Jimmy Geary.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Memorial Fund of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Alice.
