A 1965 graduate of Eastern High School and a 1969 graduate of Ball State University with a B.S. in Home Economics. She then taught at Windfall and North Miami High School and later ran a pre-school from her home for the local farm community.
A skilled seamstress and artist, Sharon ran her own business for ten years called Sew Special, creating unique and custom hand-crafted décor specializing in Raggedy Ann dolls, Santa’s, and snow people. Her goal was to bring smiles to the people who owned each piece. Also a gifted public speaker, Sharon taught and gave public presentations during her work for the Miami County Purdue extension office for the Food Nutrition Program.
Sharon or “Shar” lived in Bloomington for six years and brought joy to those she met while working at the Bell Trace Senior Living Community. Had a flare for fun, was quick to laugh and make friends, and it was her personal mission to make whomever she met laugh and feel comfortable.
Sharon was a prolific gardener and was excited to become a Master Gardener in 2012. She also loved genealogy research, travel, history, reading, puzzles of any type, and shopping for gifts. Was an incredibly loving and proud of her children and grandchildren.
A member of Meridian Street Christian Church in Greentown . A board member of the Greentown Historical Society, aand Howard County Genealogy Society and was active in the Howard County Master Gardner’s Association. Recently accepted into the Daughters of the American Revolution, General James Cox Chapter.
Survivors are her children, Chad (Tosha) Hahn and Kimberly Hahn ; grandchildren, Henry Braxton, Macy Jane and Wyatt Joshua Hahn ; sisters, Carole E. Petro and Nancy A. Petro ; nephews, David, Matthew and Stephen Laurell of ; great-nephews and niece, Phoenix Danek-Laurell, Addisonlee and Maya Laurell; also many cousins and faithful friends.
Preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles Stephen, James Stanley and Joseph Curtis Petro; as well as beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be , September 22, 2016, at Hasler-Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown, with Chaplain Joyce Brooks and Elder Jean Ann Myers officiating. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery.
