"Gerrit DeGram Dies Suddenly"
Gerrit DeGram, former local resident and World War II officer, died in his sleep at home in Stanton, Mich. Sunday morning of a heart attack. He was 52.
An electrical contractor at Stanton, he moved from this city on return from World War II duty. He went into the army as a private and was discharged as a captain in the Corps of Engineers. He served at New Caledonia overseas in the Southwest Pacific Theatre.
He was born April 5, 1919, the son of Mr and Mrs Cornelius DeGram, attended local schools and was graduated from Grand Haven High School. He was married to Clara Hinton in 1947. DeGram was a past commander of American Legion in the Stanton area.
Surviving is the wife, the former Clara Hinton; four children, Gary, Sharon, Sandy and Jerry; brothers John of Evansville, Ind.; Arthur, Delbie, Leo all of Grand Haven; and sisters Mrs. Elsie Diesel, Ludington and Mrs. Richard (Jennie) Wiebenga, Grand Haven.
The funeral is to be held Wednesday, 1:30 p.m., at Stebbins Funeral Home, Edmore.
