James G. Bergdoll
October 16, 1936 - September 27, 2016
RICHMOND, Ind. – On Tuesday, September 27, 2016, Jim passed away at Reid Health surrounded by family members. Jim was born in Muncie, Indiana and was the first child of Glenn and Dorothy (Gray) Bergdoll, who lived in Desoto, Indiana. Later, two other children were born, brothers, Jack and Jerry Bergdoll. Jim lived on a farm throughout his childhood and adolescent life, but never wanted to become a farmer.

After graduating from Desoto High School, he and close friend, Bob Robbins enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Jim traveled to the Mediterranean and around Africa during his period of duty.

Upon returning to the Muncie area, he worked for his uncle, Gray’s TV and Repair, Delco Remy in Muncie, and then owned and operated a Sinclair Gas Station. Jim loved being around people and people liked him. He later became a sales representative for Gerber Products, known as ‘Gerber Baby Food.’ Jim was a ‘Gerber Guy’ for over 30 years until his retirement.

In 1974, he was one of the co-founders of the Hamilton Township Volunteer Fire Company in Royerton, Indiana. Jim also served as secretary/treasurer for 25 years.

He loved watching high school and college basketball. Jim played golf, loved to fish, and was involved in high school band competitions with his children. He also volunteered as co-chairman for 8th grade class trips at Dennis Middle School for five years. There’s nothing like traveling with a bunch of middle school students on a bus for a week!

Jim is survived by his wife of 33 years, Barbara; brother, Jack (Pat) Bergdoll of Muncie; children, Lauri Isle of Warsaw, Indiana, Marta Bardonner of Birmingham, Alabama, Jason (Kristin) Lasley of Daleville, Indiana, and Joyell (James) Apple of Hartford City, Indiana; six grandchildren, Matthew (Lindsey) Henry of Noblesville, Indiana, Brianna Bardonner of Richmond, Virginia, Hayley, Ashton, and Owen Apple of Hartford City, and River Lasley of Daleville; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Ethan Holland of Noblesville; and several nieces, nephews, and friends throughout Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother; nephew; and great-niece.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 2, 2016, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Visitation will also be from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2016, at Garden View Funeral Home, 10501 IN-3, Muncie, Indiana. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. James Clayton officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
