Gerald Bruhn, 84 of Sioux Falls, SD, and veteran of the Korean War passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at the Sioux Falls Veteran’s Hospital.

Gerald Bruhn, son of John and Norma (Schultz) Bruhn, was born on September 25, 1932, in Salem, SD. He grew up there and received his education before enlisting with the United States Army in 1952. Gerald served as a Sergeant in the Wolfhound Battalion before being honorably discharged in 1954 and returning to Sioux Falls, SD.

Gerald was united in marriage with Jean Schneider on November 4, 1955, in Sioux Falls, SD. Gerald worked in maintenance at John Morrell and Co. until retiring in 1985. He then became self-employed as a constable and operated a small janitorial service.

Quiet and giving, Gerald kept the Lord close to his heart and was a faithful member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was also active in the VFW, American Legion, and 40 & 8. He enjoyed time spent boating, swimming, and vacationing in Northern Minnesota with his family. Gerald spent time travelling with Jean and made a special trip to the Korean Monument in Washington DC. He truly cherished time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Jean Bruhn, Sioux Falls, SD; children Kristi Gamache, West Bend, WI, Sheri Bruns, Chanhassen, MN, Mike Bruhn and his wife Kristin, Minnetonka, MN, Susan Levasseur and her husband Steve, Andover, MN, Pat Bruhn and his wife Barbara, Sioux Falls, SD, Shelly Bengston, League City, TX, David Bruhn and his wife Michelle, Sioux Falls, SD; brothers Dale Bruhn, Wichita, KS, Jim Bruhn and his wife Judy, Georgetown, DE; sisters Colleen Munley and her husband Bill, Jacksonville, FL, Glynnes Bumgardner and her husband Dave, Mitchell, SD; 9 grandchildren, Tony Gamache, his wife Stephanie, and their son Grady, Zach Gamache, Elizabeth Gamache, Colin Bruns and his wife Janae, Lindsay Bruns, Lilly Bruhn, Nick Bruhn, Bergen Bruhn, Cole Bruhn; and many other relatives and friends.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents John and Norma; brothers Gary and Richard Bruhn; and son-in-laws Greg Gamache and Mike Bruns.

Visitation will begin at 1 pm with the family present from 5 to 7 pm and a prayer service followed by a rosary at 6:30 pm on Friday, September 30, 2016, at the Miller Funeral Home Westside Chapel, 6200 West 41st Street. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Saturday, October 1, 2016, at Christ the King Catholic Parish with burial at St. Michael Cemetery.
