SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - Saturday, February 25, 2017

The funeral for Rowan County teenager Erica Parsons will be held this Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Salisbury, with Dr. Kenneth Lance officiating.

The funeral will take place one day after what would have been Erica's 19th birthday.

"I am honored to be a part of this service," Dr. Lance told WBTV.

The service is expected to include special music and words from some of those in the community who have been familiar with the tragic case over the course of the last few years.

Interment will follow the funeral service and will take place where a marker has already been placed at the West Lawn Memorial Park in China Grove.

Lyerly Funeral Home in Salisbury donated the funeral services. Wilbur Vault Company of Greensboro donated a vault for the burial service.

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. —
The adoptive mother of Erica Parsons pleaded guilty Friday to repeatedly abusing and eventually killing the Rowan County teen, according to NBC affiliate WRAL.
The television station reported that Casey Parsons, 44, will spend the rest of her life in prison for first-degree murder and felony child abuse.

Erica Parsons was reported missing on July 30, 2013. Her brother said she hadn't been seen since November 2011, but Casey Parsons and her husband, Sandy Parsons, maintained she was living with a relative in Asheville, according to WRAL.
The station reported that when that relative couldn't be found, authorities turned their attention to Casey and Sandy Parsons, who were convicted in 2014 on federal charges of fraudulently accepting adoptive care benefits for Erica when she was not living with them.
Two years after that, Sandy Parsons led investigators to Erica's remains in a shallow grave in Chesterfield County, South Carolina.
