Roy Alice Mayfield was born November 28th 1926 in Alpine Texas. She grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, and attended college locally before going to work as a draftsman for the Humble Oil Company. In 1952 she married Harley Dean Mayfield who was in the Navy. While her husband was in the Navy she lived mostly in California but also England and Germany. They moved to San Diego in 1966 and have lived here since.
During all her life she was an active volunteer; with Navy Relief in the early years, with all the activities of her children, and later with the Friends of the Library.
She is survived by her husband Harley Dean Mayfield, sons Mark Mayfield and spouse Kim of Phoenix and Matthew Mayfield and spouse Vicky of Frisco, Colorado, Daughter Brooke Palm and spouse Charles of La Mesa, granddaughters Amber and Kayla Mayfield and Cassandra Palm, and brother Fred Jacob of La Mesa.
