After graduating from Edison Hi School (Fresno, CA) in June of 1945 he enlisted in the US Navy two months shy of his 18th birthday. In June of 1946 while on the U.S.S. Baron he witnessed the explosion of the Atomic bomb at the Bikini
Atoll.

In 1956 he joined the Fresno Police Department retiring in March of 1980 as a "police specialist". After retirement as a police officer, he became an investigator for the Fresno County District Attorney's Office retiring in 1993.

In March of 1961 he was raised a Master Mason in Ponderosa Lodge No. 700 in Fresno. At the time of his death he was a 50 year member of Las Palmas-Ponderosa Lodge No. 366 in Fresno.
