Mary Ellen Kimsey passed away Sept. 22, 2016.
She was a native of Pueblo and graduated from Centennial High School. She worked as a secretary for Morton Elementary School while attending college in Colorado Springs. She received her master’s degree from Western University. Mary Ellen taught first grade at Morton Elementary School until she had to retire early due to her health. She kept in touch with some of her former students who considered her a friend as well as the “best teacher ever.” She was talented in painting and particularly enjoyed painting china. She wrote poetry and self-published two books. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Opyl Kimsey; brothers, Edgel, Robert and David; sister, Esther; nephews, Ronald and Steven; sisters-in-law, Helen, Evelyn and Mary Ann. She is survived by her brother, Louis; sister-in-law, Ethel; and nieces and nephews, Katy Rothe, Judy Youtsey, Franklin Kimsey, Susie Dews, Patricia Valente, Shari Cornelison, Sandra Hanf, Alice Kimsey, Cynthia McClure, Kent and Kevin Kimsey; plus several grandnieces and grandnephews. Mary Ellen also is survived by her dearest friend and companion, Margaret Heinricy. Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Adrian Comer Funeral Home.
