LAWRENCE -- Services will be held at 2 P.M. followed by
ritualistic services by Fidelity Chapter No. 11 of White
Shrine of Jerusalem in Rumsey Funeral Home for Dorothy Pearl
Porter, 71, Lawrence, who died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1993, at a
Kansas City, Missouri hospital.
Mrs. Porter worked for Bennett Creamery in Ottawa from 1949
until it sold, then was a telecommunications operator at the
University of Kansas in Lawrence. She also worked at K Mart
and was a volunteer many years at Lawrence Memorial Hospital
Auxiliary.
She was born March 27, 1922, in Eudora, the daughter of
Harry Loring and Pearl Esther Koehler Broers, and grew up in
Eudora. She was graduated in 1940 from Liberty Memorial
High School in Lawrence.
Mrs. Porter was a member of Ada Chapter No. 7 of the order
of Eastern Star, Fidelity Chapter No. 11 of White Shrine of
Jerusalem, Ancient Toltec Rite, and Lawrence Memorial
Hospital Auxiliary, all in Lawrence.
She was married to Vernon J. Anderson Jan. 30, 1940, in
Lawrence. He preceded her in death. She was married to Len
Porter March 2, 1957, in Osage City. He died July 24, 1972.
A son, Gary Porter, died in 1977.
Survivors include two daughters, Penni Porter and Judy
George, both of Lawrence; four sons, Larry Anderson, Kansas
City, Mo., Jim Anderson, Kansas City, Kan., and Rex Porter
and Rick Porter, both of Lawrence; a brother, Vernon "Bud"
Broers, Lawrence; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-
grandchildren.
Star graveside services will be conducted by Ada Chapter No.
7 in Oak Hill Cemetery, at Lawrence. Mrs. Porter will lie
in state from 9 a.m. today until 1 p.m. Thursday at the
funeral home where family and friends will meet from 7 until
9 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to Supreme
White Shrine Material Objective in care of the funeral home.
