James Schroeder and his beloved daughter Melanie were killed in a tragic car accident which occurred on December 21, 2006 in southeast Colorado. James was born May 16, 1966 at Ft. Rucker, Alabama to Frederick William and Maryan (Martin) Schroeder who live in Colorado Springs. He graduated from Harrison High School in the class of 1984. He was serving in the United States Marine Corps as a Logistics Specialist and had recently become retirement eligible. His most recent duty station was on the USS Oak Hill, Little Creek, Virgina. He served in Iraq in 2005. James married Jamie Lynne Arnold on August 29th 1986 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. James is survived by his wife, Jamie Lynne Schroeder, of Fredericksburg, Virginia; two daughters, Tara Rene Schroeder and Jessica Lynne Schroeder, both of Fredericksburg; three sisters: Tesea L. Beaty of Dover, Delaware, Gail L. Collins of Colorado Springs, and Michelle M. Mehrer of Aurora, Colorado; one brother, W. Guy Schroeder of Colorado Springs; aunts and uncles: Vivian Staadts of Denver, Fred and Gloria Schenke of Englishtown, New Jersey, Jim and Doris Schroeder of Veorona, New Jersey, Pat and Jesse Bevill of Dallas, Texas, Peggy Bates of Rocky Ford, Colorado and Gwen Johnson of Tucson, Arizona; and several cousins. James was preceded in death by his grandparents: Melvin E. and A Ayna (Bates) Martin formerly of Rocky Ford, Colorado; Ethelynne Ruhno of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Frederick W. Schroeder of Englishtown, New Jersey. Melanie Schroeder was born in Vista, California to James Frederick and Jamie Lynne Schroeder. She was attending Freedom Middle School in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Melanie is survived by her mother; two sisters: Tara and Jessica Schroeder; grandparents: Terry and Judy Guimond; and Fred and Maryan Schroeder; aunts and uncles: Tesea Beaty, Guy Schroeder, Gail Collins, Michelle Mehrer, Jan and Allen Dyer, Jill and Ross Carlson, and Brett and Heather Guimond, and James and Julie Arnold; and cousins: Ginger, Misty, Justin, Christopher, James Michael, Andrew, Shaun, David, Bradley, Nathan, Nicole, Tabitha, Courtney, Mark, Travis Paige and Rachel. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at the Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel of Roses, 1730 E. Fountain Blvd. Colorado Springs, Colorado 80910. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2006 at the Shrine of Remembrance. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made in James' and Melanie's memory to the American Heart Association.
