Esther Buetow, 94, of Kalamazoo, entered eternal life on March 2, 2010, at Park Place Assisted Living in Kalamazoo. Esther was born on Oct. 31, 1915, in Saginaw County, the daughter of Frederick and Sophia (Nurminger) Rohloff.

Esther was married to Elmer Buetow for 56 years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Midland for 60 years, and for the past 11 years she was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Kalamazoo. She was a 1937 graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing in Saginaw, and a lifelong member of the school's alumnae group. Esther was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Ladies Aid Society, Mary-Martha service organization, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Midland Little League Baseball Mothers' Auxiliary, Midland County Nurses Association and she was the Friendship Ambassador for Park Place Assisted Living.

Esther was married to Elmer Buetow for 56 years. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Midland for 60 years, and for the past 11 years she was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Kalamazoo. She was a 1937 graduate of St. Mary's School of Nursing in Saginaw, and a lifelong member of the school's alumnae group. Esther was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Ladies Aid Society, Mary-Martha service organization, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Midland Little League Baseball Mothers' Auxiliary, Midland County Nurses Association and she was the Friendship Ambassador for Park Place Assisted Living.

Elmer and Esther were among the founding parents of St. John's Lutheran School in Midland. She provided private duty nursing services from 1939 to 1942 for the wife of Mr. H.H. Dow, the founder of The Dow Chemical Co. in Midland. She dedicated countless hours of service to members and friends of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Esther is survived by three sons, Paul (Diane) Buetow of St. Louis, Mo., Tom (Beatrix) Buetow of Louisville, Ky., and John (Candy) Buetow of Kalamazoo; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer O. Buetow; her parents; four brothers, Carl Rohloff, Ruben Rohloff, Norman Rohloff, and her twin brother, Paul Rohloff; and a sister, Marie Rohloff.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Zion Lutheran Church, 2122 Bronson Blvd., Kalamazoo. A committal service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2010, at Chapel Hill Mausoleum and Cemetery in Freeland. A gathering will be held following that service at St. John's Lutheran Church, 505 E. Carpenter St., Midland.
