Werner E. Monnich, age 86, passed away November 28, 2016, at Wesley Woodlawn in Wichita, Kansas. He was born rural Latimer, on March 2, 1930, the son of Edward F. and Helena K. (Oltmanns) Monnich.

Werner attended Lyon Valley and Hope Schools. He served in the U. S. Army, during the Korean War in Okinawa, from 1951-1953. He was a mechanic and drove tanks.

He was employed as a truck driver for many years working for Heiser Truck Lines and Tiede Truck Lines. He farmed during that time and later was a full-time farmer and stockman.

Werner Monnich of Herington and Pauline Schott were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lajunta, Colorado, on March 31, 1957, by the bride’s uncle, Rev. N. A. Schott. They lived near Ramona and later moved to a farm near Herington. They relocated to a home near Latimer in 1991.

Three children were born to this union; Marcia Bartlett (Clint), Wanda Platz (Donald) and Richard Monnich.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church rural Ramona for many years and was a current member of Zion Lutheran Church in Latimer.

He is preceded in death by his wife Pauline on June 4, 2016; a brother Erwin, a sister Mildred Krause, and his parents.

He is lovingly survived by his three children and their spouses, his four grandsons; Joseph Platz, Lucas Monnich, Brady Platz (Jessica), and Matthew Monnich, and his 2 great grandsons; Korbyn and Kiptyn Platz.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, December 5th, 2016, at the Zion Lutheran Church, Latimer, with Pastor King Crawford and Rev. Clark Davis, officiating. Burial will follow at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Latimer. A family visitation will be Sunday evening at the Zeiner Funeral Home-Herington Chapel at 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

The family requests memorials to the Zion Lutheran Cemetery Fund; and they may be sent in care of the Zeiner Funeral Home – Herington Chapel, 404 S. Broadway, Herington, KS, 67449-3038.
