Funeral services for Marvin Mitschke, 86, of Giddings, December 9, 2016, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings. Burial in the Giddings City Cemetery.

Marvin Tilford Mitschke was born on April 12, 1930 in Northrup, Texas, the son of Emil Ernst Mitschke and Bertha Marie (Becker) Mitschke. He was baptized on April 20, 1930 and confirmed on April 2, 1944 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Serbin, Texas by Rev. Herman Schmidt. His confirmation verse was Proverbs 23:26, "My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways". He attended school at St. Paul Lutheran School in Serbin.

Marvin was united in marriage to Joyce “Mickey” Delois Mitschke on February 7, 1953 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings by Rev. Max Studtmann. Shortly after their marriage, Marvin & Mickey moved to Houston for several years where they were active members of St. Mark Lutheran Church. In 1960, they moved back to Giddings where Marvin went to work for Cargill Nutrena and retired after 30 years.

He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings where he served on the finance committee as a checker for many years. Marvin was an accomplished piano and accordion player and shared his talent through performances at area weddings, birthday parties, dances, anniversaries and other celebrations.

He took great pride in his family’s original farm in Northrup. It was there that he spent countless hours on his four wheeler checking his cattle. Marvin was the type of person who was always on the go. He enjoyed gardening and could build just about anything. Having lost his father when he was only 10, family was always very important to him. He always looked forward to the times, gatherings and laughs he could share with his family, especially during the three day Mitschke Reunion.

Marvin passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at St. David's Medical Center in Austin following a brief illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil & Bertha Mitschke; his daughter-in-law, Kelly Mitschke; his sister, Ella Nuckols and six brothers, Arnold Mitschke, John Mitschke, Bill Mitschke, Herbert Mitschke, Arthur Mitschke and Harry Mitschke.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 63 years, three children, thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
