Larry Duane Ahlers, 67, of Eureka Springs, AR, died Thursday, December 8, 2016, at his home.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton with Pastor Vern Olson officiating. Inurnment will follow at Belgrade Main Cemetery in Belgrade with military honors by Rathbun-Fehrs American Legion Post 99 of Belgrade and Nebraska Military Honor Guard. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Palmer-Santin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Larry was born October 13, 1949 in Grand Island, to Walter and Aila (Underwood) Ahlers. He was part of the last graduating class of Belgrade High School in 1967 in Belgrade. He then attended Grand Island School of Business. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1970 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He was honorably discharged on May 24, 1974. After the service, he worked at Dale Electronics in Columbus and then First Data in Omaha. He then moved to Eureka Springs, AR in 2005, where he resided until his death.

He enjoyed working with computers and working on antique telephones. He also enjoyed playing the piano and organ and played many songs for his nieces and nephews. He also made the best eggnog for the holidays.

He is survived by his two brothers, Gary (Patricia) Ahlers of Columbus and Richard (Donna) Ahlers of Grand Island; one sister, Lorraine Leadabrand of Mulkeytown, IL; and ten nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
