Earline Annie Moeckel Kulhanek, 82, of Alleyton, passed away on Friday, December 23, in her home, surrounded by her loved ones. Earline was born in Alleyton, TX on June 25, 1934, the daughter of Adam P. Moeckel, Sr. and Annie Meyer Moeckel.

Earline enjoyed sharing the story about the first time she saw Daniel “Bubba” Frank Kulhanek, Sr. while working as a waitress at a local Cafe. It proved to be love at first site and they were married in St. Anthony Catholic Church on October 17, 1955.

Earline dedicated her life to loving and caring for her large family and children from her home on FM 102. She was an amazing housewife and mother who was faced with many trials in her life including an untimely death of her husband, Daniel, 37 years ago. Following her husband’s death, she continued to be a strong, caring, loving mother for her children, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed her days by offering an endless abundance of love and care that did not end with just her immediate family. She loved to share her home and offered kindness to many other children by providing day care services. When parents arrived to pick up “her kids” at the end of a long day, “Grandma”, also known by many as “Auntie”, would always have extra time to chat with them, sometimes over a cup of coffee. She would never let anyone leave her home without a warm hug, a big wave and a loud shout, “Love you!”, as you exited the drive way.

Earline had a special knack for cooking; whether it be a quick breakfast on the go, or lunch, a mid-afternoon snack or an evening meal, her kitchen was her “happy place.” Earline’s fried chicken and buttered potatoes were always a favorite dish at all the family gatherings. During her healthy years, it was not unusual for her and Tina to be up at 4:00 AM, preparing large portions of chicken for a Thanksgiving or Christmas Family gathering.

Earline always enjoyed bird watching and her home decor was filled with the theme of wild birds. Bird seed was always a priority on her grocery list, to be spread on the sidewalks and drive ways, enticing colorful birds to stay close enough, usually to serve as entertainment for the youngsters. She also liked to feed the deer by scattering shell corn in the front and back yard. She loved watching the white tail bucks from her kitchen window and many times a curious fox would pass thru the back yard for a quick meal of scraps from Grandmas table.

Years ago, the Astros were her favorite baseball team, especially during the famous era of the “Killer B’s” and her true love of the game was evident. It was not unusual to find Earline playing a few innings in the front yard with the “kiddos”; Grandma was always the pitcher on the mound!

In her younger years, Earline was very passionate about refinishing older furniture and found joy as she repainted the walls and trim of her home. She enjoyed barbeques with her family, set up under the shady trees in her large back yard. It was no secret that George Strait was her absolute favorite singer; a photo of “Ole Georgie” could be found displayed in many places of her home. During her final hours, Earline rested peacefully, accompanied by family members, while listening to George Strait songs, in the comfort of her cozy bedroom she had repainted years ago.

Earline is survived by her sons, Daniel F. Kulhanek, Jr. and wife Jana of Montgomery, David Kulhanek of Baytown, TX, Alfred Kulhanek and wife Fellicia of Sealy, her daughters, Cynthia Glueck and husband Richard Glueck of Cat Spring, Donna Schindler and husband Gary Schindler of Cat Spring, and Tina Elaine Kulhanek of Alleyton.
