Henrietta Elizabeth Isander was born in the Finnish parish of Stockholm. She was a daughter of Erik Isander, a music teacher, born October 10, 1802 in the parish of Skepptuna. He was a son to the soldier L.G. Isander and his wife Maria Christina.

Henrietta's mother was Lovisa Henrika Flemming, born August 18, 1805 in the parish of Nicolai in Stockholm. Her parents were of Finnish origin. Her father was Henrik Flemming, a shoemaker and her mother Anna Elisabeth Moller. Her father died at the age of 42 on January 14, 1809.
Married Carl Johan Hoffstedt on December 7, 1862. He died young at 41 in 1869 of typhoid fever, leaving behind Henrietta, two daughters and one son.

In 1893 at age 58 she came to the USA aboard the ship Virginia leaving from Goteborg, Sweden. Daughter Charlotte (Elise) had come in 1877, son Carl Gustav in 1887 and daughter in 1892.
