Katherina Elisabetha (Bauer) Kern was born on 1 May 1849 in Norka, Russia. She was confirmed here as well in Sept 1864. On 26 Jan 1871 she married her now bereaved husband, Ludwig. They were permitted to share and carry the joys and sorrows on this life together for 59 years. They had 10 children, 6 sons and 4 daughters, of which 3 sons and 3 daughters preceded their mother in death. She leaves 3 sons, 1 daughter, (Frau Koehler), 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Kern was sickly the last years of her life and couldn't attend church which she used to do faithfully and joyfully. She received comfort and strengthening of her faith in receiving the sacrement and Word. Thus she carried her illness in quiet resignation as the will of God and God's will freed her of all suffering on Feb. 5. She died after her operation at St. Anthony's Hospital at the age of 73 years 9 months and 4 days.
Her well attended funeral was held on Feb. 7 and she was laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Comfort and grace to the bereaved especially to Father Kern. Text: Ps. 39:5-8.
