MAZIE (WARD) T. ROSSELL was born July 28, 1903 and died February 8, 2001. She was the daughter of Jessie Josiah Ward and Florence Burke. Jessie Josiah Ward was the son of William Josiah (Diamond Joe) Ward and Abseybeth Purvis. William Josiah (Diamond Joe)Ward, was the son of James B. Ward and Elizabeth English. Florence Burke was the daughter of William Nimrod Burke and Mary Jane Ward, who was the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Ward and Holland Purvis, Thomas Jefferson Ward was the son of James B. Ward and Elizabeth English.

Mazie was an inspiration to all who knew her. She took great pleasure in assisting anyone seeking information on their family tree. Her 97 plus years and a keen memory made her the authority, that was unsurpassed, on the James B. Ward Family and the history of Northwest Florida.

Bruce Methodist church was overflowing with her relatives and friends. The choir sang "It is well with my soul" accompanied by pianist Zera Denson, her niece. The Eastern Star members from The Freeport, Florida Eastern Star Chapter dressed in their all white clothing performed a beautiful Eastern Star ceremony.

At the cemetery, Chief Andrew Ramsey and other members of the Florida Tribe of Eastern Creek Indians performed a meaningful Creek Indian burial. Chief Ramsey spoke in the Creek language and interpreted it in the English language and explained each part of the ceremony. Not only was it beautiful, it was educational to those who had never attended an Indian Burial.

With Mazie's passing, all who knew her would agree that it was not only the passing of a wonderful person, it was the passing of a library of interesting and wonderful information. We all mourn her death and will miss her greatly. No one can take the place of "Amazing Mazie," as she was referred to by many of her family and friends.
