Milvern Grummert, the son of John and Freida (Warneking) Grummert, was born on July 20, 1928 in Superior, Nebraska. He passed away on January 16, 2017 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital at Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 88 years, 5 months, 27 days.

Mike was baptized in 1928 and confirmed in 1942 at Salem Lutheran Church. He grew up attending school in Smyrna and graduating from Superior High School in 1946. After graduating, Mike was inducted into the Armed Forces on November 14, 1950, serving in Korea. On July 16, 1952, while still in the service he was united in marriage to Aileen Ann Ferguson. Mike was honorably discharged on August 13, 1952 as a corporal. In his lifetime, Mike worked many jobs including, Conoco Gas Station, Champlain Oil Company, Grummert Conoco, and Smitty’s House Movers all in Superior, Wild Bill Bills Market in Oak, Wilson’s Meat Packing and Yellow Diamond Bus Lines in Hastings, Roaman’s Meat in Ord, and Farmland Industries retiring after 29 years in Hastings.

Mike was known for his huge gardens- Tomatoes for everyone! He was very crafty and could make something useful out of anything. He believed in repurposing, reusing, and recycling things before it came popular. Mike and Aileen lived in the home in Glenvil that he built with his own two hands. Every cupboard and piece of furniture was also made by Mike.

Mike and Aileen loved to travel and he took his family to almost every state in this union, and of course Las Vegas was almost an annual tradition. He never spoke ill of anyone, or swore in his house. His children remember the worst word he ever uttered was “malarkey!” He would help anyone, with anything, even when traveling. So far as to drive a young Navy family who broke down on the highway in Utah to Nevada while on vacation with Aileen. Mike was a loving Husband, Dad and Grandpa, and he was most kind and generous, but also a bit stubborn, but every, Grummert is. He was well liked and respected by many and will be truly missed.

He was a member of the Glenvil American Legion and during his lifetime he lived in Superior, Oak, Hastings and Glenvil. In January of 2015, Mike joined Aileen at the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings, Nebraska due to health.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Freida and stepmother, Freda Grummert; infant brother, grandson, Jonathan Grummert, great grandson, Hayden Reiman; brothers, Eldrick and Galen Grummert; stepbrothers, Hollis, Glenn, Lloyd, and Roger Nunnenkamp; step sister Eva Nelson; and nephew Craig Grummert.
