Andrew J. Maier, 88, of Glidden, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at his residence with his loving family near his side. He was born April 25, 1928, in Waunakee, the son of Mathias and Susan (Mearz) Maier.

He was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. On Feb. 12, 1955, he was united in marriage to Ruth R. Heinlein in Glidden. Andy was a proud self employed, logging company owner, operator for most of his life. He could fix most any mechanical problem and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, trapper and Packers fan.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ruth, of Glidden; children Cathy (Jerry) Schock of Park Falls, Bob (Kathy) Maier of Park Falls, Sue Ann (David) Harries of Ashland, Therese (Steve) Atwood of Ladysmith, Mike (Jill) Maier of Glidden, Barb Maier of Duluth, Minn., Tim (Kari Gruber) Maier of La Crosse, Cindy (Mike McDougall) Maier of North Branch, Minn., Gerilyn (Brett) Vesel of Austin, Minn., Andy (Jana) Maier, Jr. of Stevens Point, Chris Maier of Wausau, Sherri Maier of South Range, Scott (Nicole) Maier of Glidden, Joe (Megan Schauer) Maier of Butternut, Jeff Maier of Ladysmith, and Jennifer (Mike Weisnicht) Maier of Green Bay; 51 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sisters Bertilla Wagner, Evelyn Pate and Marlene Mack; brothers Kenneth Maier and Ralph Maier; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Wilbert, Earl, James, Bernard, Vincent and Donald Maier and sister Dolores Maier.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Andrew will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017 at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in Glidden with Father Simon Boyapati as Celebrant. Military honors will be provided by Glidden Chippewa VFW Post 7300 , of Glidden.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Church in Glidden and continue until the hour of service.

Spring burial will take place in Most Precious Blood Cemetery, Glidden.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred for a future memorial fund to be established by the family.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Mountain Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ashland and Mellen.
