Peter Wallace (1719 - 1784)
Peter Wallace, Jr. was born in 1710 at Dunshanglin Castle, Meath, Ireland (Some historians believe he was born in Ulster, Ireland). He died September 05, 1786 at Lexington, Rockbridge County, Virginia, and was interred at Thornhill.
Peter Wallace Jr., was the 6th great grandfather of Col. George Selden Wallace who authored the book, Descendants of Peter Wallace & Elizabeth Woods, His wife.
Peter's mother Elizabeth (Woods)Wallace and his five siblings along with Elizabeth's brothers, Michael, William, James and Andrew Woods and their families boarded a ship. Michael Woods family alone had eleven children. It is also possible that other family members, whose relationship is unknown, were also on board the George and Anne. It is believed that the some of the McDowell clan were aboard the ship.Peter Wallace Jr. came to Pennsylvania in 1724 with his mother, Elizabeth Woods. He is believed to have come with her to Rockbridge County, Virginia in 1739. In 1744, he married a first cousin names Martha Woods (1720-1790). They lived two miles southwest of Lexington, Virginia. Peter Jr. died in September 1784 and was buried at the Thorn Hill Estate near Lexington, Virginia. This estate was owned by Colonel John Bowyer and his wife Magdalena Woods, sister of Peter's wife. The family cemetery on this estate is probably the burial site of other Wallace family members. However, in 1983, there were no headstones left standing with their names. They had nine children.
