Laura Raechel Kutz, RN, 91, of Mountain Top, passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at Smith Health Care Center.

Born in Swoyersville, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Laura Charnesky Rothery.

She received her nursing degree from Nesbitt Memorial Hospital and served in the Navy Cadet Nursing Corps, attaining the rank of ensign.

Laura was an outstanding cook who enjoyed family dinners and gatherings. She enjoyed her card club and was an avid golfer, belonging to the Valley Country Club in Conyngham.

Laura was a member of Firwood United Methodist Church in Wilkes-Barre and Christ United Methodist Church in Mountain Top.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was her husband, Richard H. Kutz, the co-owner of the Old River Road Bakery. They had been married 57 years at the time of his death. Also preceding her in death was her son, Richard H. Kutz II.

Surviving are her brother, G. Guy Rothery, Mountain Top; her daughter-in-law and caregiver, Deborah Kutz, Mountain Top; and grandchildren, Laura McCartney and husband, Ross, Nazareth; Dr. Richard "Hank" Kutz and wife, Dr. Kate Marciniszyn, Portland, Maine; and Donavon Kutz and wife, Malinda Isa, Washington, D.C. Six great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from McCune Funeral Home, 80 S. Mountain Blvd., Mountain Top.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Smith Health Care for their compassionate care.
