Joseph Leslie Barlow
July 6, 1931 – January 23, 2017

Joseph Leslie Barlow, our cherished patriarch, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. Joe will be remembered for his diligence, kindness, obedience, work ethic, integrity, and devotion to his family and the Savior.

Joe was born on July 6, 1931, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the oldest of six children born to Edmund and Ethel Barlow.
He graduated from Granite High School in 1950, and then worked as a machinist at Eimco Corporation. He went on to study tool engineering at Westminster College, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1959. He was a member of the Alpha Chi fraternity and president of the Engineering Club. He excelled and was honored for his academic achievements, and always had a love for learning. After graduating from college, he was hired by Hercules where he worked on the Minuteman Missile project. In 1963, Joe was one of three cofounders of EnTec, a filament winding machine company, where he was Senior Project Engineer. He worked at EnTec until his retirement in 2008.

Joe met his sweetheart Connie at a Sunday School party in McKinley Ward. After courting for 10 months, they were married on August 23, 1957, in the Salt Lake Temple.

Working alongside his father, Joe learned carpentry and electrical skills. He finished basements and was a good all-around handyman. He enjoyed planting and harvesting a vegetable garden and fruit trees. He had a skill for car mechanics and repair. Joe LOVED literature, reading, and Louis L'Amour and Agatha Christie books. He had a beautiful bass voice and performed solos on many occasions. In his younger years, he enjoyed dancing in All-Church Dance Festivals. Joe loved doing family history work and was grateful for his pioneer and Australian heritage.

Joe was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His discipleship was personal and exact. He lived close to the Lord. He served in many church callings, including Ward Clerk, Young Men Superintendent, Bishopric Counselor in three different bishoprics, High Councilor, High Priest Group leadership and Stake Mission Presidency. He served as Bishop from 1976 to 1980 in the South Cottonwood 13th Ward. He always wanted to serve a mission and fulfilled that desire when he and his beloved companion were called to the Georgia Macon Mission in February 2008. He was a devoted home teacher all his life.

Joe cherished his seven wonderful children and their spouses, 36 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Above all, he was a family man. His posterity was his greatest joy and will be his greatest legacy.

Joe is survived by his wife, Connie, and his children Kerry (Wendy), Brian (Esther), Connie Jo (John) Green, Kimberly (Brian) Wilkinson, Steven, Danny (Patrice), and Tiffany (Mark) Cheney. He is also survived by his brothers, Don, Hugh, and Julian. Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Ethel, and his siblings, Edythe Denos and Ian Barlow.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at noon, at the LDS Fairways Chapel, 1533 North 1075 West, Farmington, Utah. Viewings will be held Friday, January 27, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Fairways Chapel, and Saturday, January 28 from 10:00 – 11:30 AM prior to the funeral.
