Marcia "Marti" Quarry Latz, 76, of Wake Forest died Sunday, February 12, 2017, five days before her 77th Birthday, in the ICU of Duke-Raleigh Hospital in Raleigh, NC - following a short illness.

Marti resided in Wake Forest, NC since 2004, following stops along the way in Florida, Colorado, Illinois, Ohio and New Jersey. She was born on February 17, 1940 at the Nason Hospital in Roaring Spring, Pa., to the late Lloyd Irvin and Vesta Naomi (Wineland) Quarry, Sr.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Lloyd Irvin Quarry, Jr. , and her sister, Mary Lou (Quarry) Pastva.

Marti is survived by her husband John T. Latz, native of Windber, Pa whom she met at a Church Camp during a folk dance class, partly because they were the two tallest people in the class - he still claims she was also the prettiest girl. They married on June 13, 1959; her death ends a 57-year marriage and a 62-year courtship. She is also survived by their son, John Kenneth Latz (Maureen Patricia Morrison) of Wake Forest, NC; twin grandchildren, John Nicholas and Jacqueline Nicole Latz - both attending Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, VA; brother-in-law, James Alan Latz (Elizabeth Gross); brother-in-law, Michael John Pastva; plus a total of four nieces, five nephews and all of their families.

She was a graduate of Morrison Cove High School in Martinsburg, PA; attended Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA; graduated from Tampa Business College in Tampa, FL.; and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Franklin University in Columbus, OH. She was employed during her life as a legal secretary; a litigation paralegal; a real estate paralegal; a Principal of M.Q. Latz & Associates; and Co-Founder & President of InfoSystems Consultants, Inc. – both provided technical writing services to the international telecommunication industry.

She qualified as a Certified Professional Secretary. Her current hobbies included, writing poetry and "Field Trips" with her grandchildren. Marti was a congregant at the White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, where she was an active member of the Presbyterian Women's Circle D.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 19th, from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's St. Raleigh, NC , for family, faith family and invited friends.

An entombment service will be held on Monday, February 20th at 10:00 a.m., in the Chapel Mausoleum at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, for family, faith family and invited friends. A Witness to the Resurrection Service will follow the entombment Monday, February 20th at 11:00 a.m., at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Rd., Raleigh, for family, faith family and invited friends. The family will also receive friends following the service in the Jane Bell Gathering Space of White Memorial.

A woman of many talents and varied interests: gourmet chef; sailor on the Great Lakes, Long Island Sound, and Chesapeake Bay; backpacker in Germany, Switzerland and Italy; and Karaoke singer with 50 Brazilians on an overnight party bus from Sao Paulo, Brazil to Carnival in Rio de Janeiro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made in her name to the White Memorial Presbyterian Church Building Fund.

The family also wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses and doctors in the Duke-Raleigh Hospital ICU for their extraordinary and tireless care during her final week.
