Alma Laura Ziegler Bradshaw, of Dallas, Texas, peacefully passed away March 7, 2017. However, she will continue to live on in the hearts of the many of people who loved her.
Alma was born on July 10, 1926, in Winnsboro, Texas. After her family moved to Dallas, she attended Dallas public schools, graduating from W.H. Adamson High School. On December 14, 1956, she married Harvey Edmond Bradshaw in Dallas. They lived, loved and laughed together until his death in 2002.
In 1968, Alma went to work as a Tupperware manager, earning numerous awards and amazing trips, including one to Orlando in 1971. It just so happened that a new resort called Walt Disney World had just opened that same year. Thus, beginning her family’s lifelong love of Disney. A tradition that continues today.
After Tupperware, she went on to become a receptionist at Commerce Savings and Loan in Dallas. It wasn’t long before she was recruited to be a purchasing agent. In 1986, she joined the Texas Credit Union League as a supervisor in purchasing. After retiring in 1997, she volunteered at Methodist Hospital in Dallas.
A child of the depression, Alma learned quickly about the importance of cooking and caring for family. A gift she would enjoy and share her entire life. Although the era was difficult, she spoke fondly of summers spent at her Aunt Becky and Uncle Curt’s farm where, salt shaker in hand, she would eat tomatoes straight off the vine and pick peaches from the tree. It was here that she baked her first cake and developed a love of cooking for large gatherings of family and friends, especially for the holidays. Years later, as Alma began cooking for her own family, she became famous for her chocolate mayonnaise cake. She also became known for giving the “Alma” look. You see, Alma was fluent in the art of sarcasm and aimed it with her eyes. When you got the “Alma” look you knew you had better stop whatever foolishness warranted that look.
Alma is preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Eula Smithwick Ziegler, her husband, Harvey Bradshaw, her son, Robert Anthony Burns, and siblings Victor Ziegler Jr., Syble Ziegler Myrick, and Dave Ziegler. She is survived by her daughter Terri Bradshaw O’Neill and husband, Ken, of Colleyville; Kathleen Burns Sperry of Grand Prairie; Mark Bradshaw of Quinlan; Patty Bradshaw Latham and husband, Paul, of Richardson; and her 9 grandchildren, Shawn Bargsley, Kim Goad, Tanya Weldon, Heather Burns, Bryan Burns, Eric Bradshaw, Mandy Ferguson, Katy Latham, and Amelia Latham; Numerous great-grandchildren, including one, Daniel Greer, who also preceded her in death.
Join us on Saturday, March 11th, at Community Christian Church, located at 1300 Holly Drive, Richardson, Texas, 75080. Viewing is at 10:30am. Memorial service is at 11am. Burial will be at National Cemetery in Dallas at a later date.
