Mr. Sowieja, 68, of Dodge Center, a service technician, died Tuesday (June 10, 2003) at his home.
Born July 7, 1934, in Rosemount, Minn., he moved to rural Dodge Center with his family in 1940 and graduated from Dodge Center High School in 1953. He then served in the Army for two years, including a year in Germany. On July 13, 1957, he married Judith Ziemer in Dodge Center, and they lived in Dodge Center all their married lives. For the past 25 years he owned his own business repairing industrial, woodworking and metal machines. Mr. Sowieja was a member of St. John Baptist de La Salle Catholic Church and the Dodge Center Country Club. He enjoyed the outdoors and golfing, fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Lynne Sowieja of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Susan (Richard) Frericks of Silver Bay, Minn.; a son, James of Mantorville; three grandchildren; four brothers, Lawrence (Marcella), Emil (Dorothy) and Edward, all of Dodge Center, and Emery of Joplin, Mo.; and a sister, Mary Herman of Two Harbors, Minn. Three sisters and a brother preceded him in death.
