Cox, Margaret Claire (Bower), 82, of Wichita passed away July 11, 2009, in Loveland, CO. Margaret and husband Lindley, 87, were visiting family in Fort Collins, CO, when she fell, sustaining brain trauma which resulted in her passing. Margaret was born in Parsons, KS, September 10, 1926, the third daughter of Burnett O. ("Pete") and Dorothy Bower. She attended public schools, graduating from Parsons High School in 1943. After two years at Parsons Junior College, she entered Kansas State Teachers College of Pittsburg, earning a Bachelor's in Education in 1947. There she met Lindley Cox whom she married June 26, 1949 in Parsons. Margaret was a homemaker and loving mother. She gave birth to her first three children, Sara, Joel, and Jeff, in the early 1950's while living in Paola, KS, where Lindley taught high school industrial arts. The family moved to Wichita in 1957. Eventually Margaret was blessed with a fourth child, Jeremy, in 1970. Margaret was an active participant in her family's interests. She volunteered to drive for school field trips, assisted in the library, and was a Girl Scout troop leader in the 1960's. She enjoyed reading, music, and travel, including planning vacations and in 1983 a trip to England to meet a pen pal from junior high days. In 1974 Margaret and Lindley joined East Heights United Methodist Church where Margaret was involved in UMW, Sunday School classes, Bible study and other church activities. She and Lindley traveled with a church tour to the Holy Lands, Egypt and Greece, and she co-led a mission work team in Mexico. She was a founding member of the Ringing Belles handbell choir which she greatly enjoyed. Margaret and Lindley celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June. Margaret is survived by husband Howard Lindley Cox of Wichita; children Sara Ream (Steve) of Omaha, Joel (Karen) of Fort Collins, Jeff (Cristy) of Tulsa, and Jeremy (Jennifer) of Fort Collins; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and her two sisters, Vida Remy of San Rafael, CA, and Doris Toomey (Robert) of Wilmington, DE. Memorial service 10 a.m. August 15, at East Heights United Methodist Church, Wichita. Memorials to East Heights UMC.
