Andrea Roy "Andy" Causa
November 17, 1928 - March 4, 2017
Andy Causa was born on November 17, 1928 in La Salle, Illinois to Salvador and Margaret Causa. In 1940, Salvador and Margaret, along with their two sons Andy and John, moved to California. After the loss of his father, Andy and John went to live on their Uncle Luigi's ranch in Riverbank. Andy went to grade school in Riverbank and high school in Oakdale, where he graduated in 1946. While working for his uncle, he met a Mr. Parker, who got him an interview with Sears, where he was hired in April 1948. Starting in shipping and receiving, he moved his way up through the company. While serving as a Hardware Manager, he made a name for himself by becoming the first employee to hit one million dollars in hardware sales.
In 1964, he met his wife Ada in Sacramento, and they were married in Las Vegas in 1967. During this time, he continued to advance up the management scale at Sears from division manager to automotive and eventually merchandise manager. In 1968, he was promoted to staff for the Western Division of the United States and the family moved to San Dimas. In 1971, he was promoted to store manager and the family moved to Ventura. It was at this time that Andy formalized the adoption of his son, Gary, Ada's child from a previous marriage.
In 1975, Andy was transferred and became the store manager of the Sears store in Merced. He continued in this position until he retired from Sears in 1986. In 1987, he became the regional manager for Goodwill Industries in Northern California. He held this position until 1994, when he retired for good.
Andy was an avid golfer and was a long time member of the Merced Golf and Country Club. He was a member of the Rotary Club in Merced and actively participated in charity work for the United Way and Salvation Army. He was a parishoner at St. Luke's Anglican Church for over 40 years and an active member of the Vestry. He was also one heck of a dancer.
He celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife, Ada, on February 22, 2017 and died peacefully in his sleep on March 4, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Causa.
A Memorial Service for Andy Causa will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 459 W. 21st., Merced, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Andy's name to charities that fund research for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
