Daughter of Alexander Smith and Nora M. Davis, she married John Wallace Arnett.

"Born in New Bedford she lived in the city her entire life. She was a graduate of Holy Family High School and also of Kenyon Secretarial School.
She was employed by Almy and Co. Insurance, Charles S. Ashley and Sons Insurance and Bosworth Insurance Agency. Retiring in 2003, she obtained licenses as an Insurance Broker and a Real Estate Broker and was active for many years in the antique business.
She was a former member of the Old Dartmouth Historic Society and WHALE. She was involved in local theater with Spouters, Your Theater, New Bedford High and the University of MA, Dartmouth.
She was Co-Chairman of Save Fort Rodman Committee in New Bedford. She served as a member of the Task Force Committee, overlooking problems at the secondary water waste treatment plant.
