Mr. Jerry D. Hood age 81 of Young Harris went to be with the Lord on Monday March 20, 2017 following an extended illness. Jerry was born on July 7, 1935 in Union County to Homer L. Hood and Essie Kuykendall Hood. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, where he previously served as a Deacon until his health declined. Jerry loved sports. He played basketball and baseball when he was in school and later on a men’s team in Young Harris. For several years he coached Tony’s little league teams. He enjoyed going to many Braves Games and spent many hours watching sports on TV. Love for photography over the years consumed much of his free time. He became the family photographer for many special occasion, birthdays, weddings (some of which he couldn’t remember). He became involved in the Find-A-Grave web page and visited many local cemeteries making photos of graves and added them to the web. He started a web page for Cornerstone and worked each week adding church services and special occasions. He was also photographer for lifelong friend Zell Miller during his time as Governor of Georgia. He was also was an assistant to Mr. Miller when he was Lt. Governor. The challenge of fixing things was most dear to his heart. He always had a project-usually several at a time whether it be computer challenges which he loved- or some other electronic “trick” or even building things. He always had a plan brewing about how to do something new even after his illness just about had the best of him. He kept his mind working overtime. His mother in law Roberta believes all he needed to do was touch something and it was fixed. Jerry retired from Lock Head after thirty plus years of service at age of fifty five. He was a Structural Assembler working on the C-130, C-141, C-5 and Jet Star planes.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 23, 2017 at 3:00 pm from the Cornerstone Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
