Lewin Howard Lugar, Sr., 86, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, February 6, 2007. He was born in Roanoke on June 3, 1920. He was the only child of his now deceased parents, Elmer Lugar and Vinda Lugar. He went to Oakland Grammar School and was a 1938 graduate of the original William Fleming High School. He also attended Roanoke College and National Business College. He was a 30 year employee of the Amoco Oil Company and retired from Amoco in 1982 as their District Analyst. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and he attended West End United Methodist Church. During World War II he was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army Signal Corps serving in Africa, Italy and France. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Katherine Lugar; son and daughter-in-law, Lewin, Jr. and Roseann Lugar of Virginia Beach; daughter, Diane Lewis of Tennessee; daughter and son-in-law, Vinda and Steve Crawford of Mebane, N.C.; granddaughters, Julie Clary and Heather Ewing; grandsons, C.W. Lewis, Robert Crawford and Philip Crawford; also great-grandsons, Joseph Clary and Brenton Ewing.
