Norrita "Rita" Kistler
May 31, 1929-April 15, 2017
Resident of Saratoga

Rita never met a stranger and never made a recipe the same way twice—her fun-loving, adventurous spirit will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Born in Chesterton, Indiana, the daughter of Sig and Eva Weidman, Rita grew up as a farm girl. She learned early and never forgot the value of a strong work ethic and the love of family and faith. After high school, she trained and worked as a nurse and then joined the Air Force, hoping to see the world. Rita's wish came true as she was stationed in Texas, France, Germany and then Greece.

In Athens, she met Jim Kistler a fellow Midwesterner and they were married on August 18, 1956 in Rita's hometown. Jim's post-military career as a geologist for Chevron took them to more adventures in many places including Salinas, Bakersfield and Walnut Creek , California, Anchorage, Alaska and London, England. In retirement they moved to Gig Harbor, Washington and finally in 2011 to Saratoga Retirement Community, to be near children and grandchildren.

Although Rita was less mobile in her final years and months, she never lost the sparkle in her lovely blue eyes nor the love of sociability and adventure, family, God and country.

Rita is survived by her loving husband of 60-plus years, Jim Kistler; children Kimberly Kistler Davidson (Bob Gawlik); Jay Kistler (Christine Conklin); Karen Kistler (David Ibarra); and granddaughters: Stephanie Davidson, Hannah and Nora Kistler.

Services will be held at Saratoga Federated Church on Thursday, April 27 at 11 AM, followed by burial at Madronia Cemetery, Saratoga at 2:30pm. Arrangements are through Darling-Fischer Mortuary of Los Gatos. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rita's name may be made to WoundedWarriorProject.org or a charity of your choice .
