Richard Thomas Armstrong, 75, of Branchland, W.Va., died Tuesday, February 9, 2010. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Perry and Bertha Armstrong, his brother Perry Armstrong and his sister, Ann Gardner. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary "Cookie" Miller-Armstrong; two daughters, Melissa "Janie" (Chris) Reck of Prattville, Ala., Mary Ellen Armstrong of Keysville, Va.; five grandchildren, Colin, Hannah and Jessica Reck of Prattville, Ala., Michelle Gardiner of Mechanicsville, Md., Robbie Opperman of Waldrof, Md.; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Gatton of Frederick, Md. and Betty (Mike) Bean of Upper Marlboro, Md.; his mother-in-law Grethel Miller of Branchland, Va.; three sisters-in-law, Rose Bonner of South Riding, Va., Kay (Tim) Swanson of Manassas, Va., and Ellie Mae Armstrong of Colonial Beach, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Paul (Linda) Miller of Ashland, Kentucky and Roger (Ginger) Miller of Washington, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Along with family, he is survived by many friends including Roma "Red" Dean, Tommy Miller, David Hendrick and the employees of Adams Trucking. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday, February 13, 2010, at the McGhee-Handley Funeral Home, West Hamlin.
