A Memorial and Celebration of Life service will be held for Jerry Clifford Plattor on Saturday, June 17 at 2 p.m. at the first Presbyterian Church, Fourth and Grand Avenue, Artesia, N.M. with Reverend Dan Phelps officiating, assisted by Bishop William Hutchinson.

Jerry died in the loving arms of his wife, Rita Sue Caudle Plattor, son J.J., and caretakers at his bedside on June 12, 2017.

erry graduated from Artesia High School in 1957. He attended New Mexico Military Institute from 1957 – 1958, Baylor University from 1958 – 1959 and University of New Mexico 1959 – 1960.

Jerry and Rita married June 12, 1960 at the First Presbyterian Church in Artesia, N.M. They resided in Roswell, N.M. where Jerry operated “Will Travel Drive-In” until 1963. Moving to Midland, T.X. they opened Cliff’s Cafeteria, which they operated until September 1964. Upon his father’s death they moved to Alamogordo, N.M. to help his mother run their Cliff’s Cafeteria. In 1966 they purchased Town House in Artesia and operated it until it was sold December 31, 1986. At that time Jerry attended Denver Floral Design School, graduating top in his class, Jerry and Rita then purchased and remodeled the house at 1010 West Main Street and opened Love Bud Floral and Gifts on March 15, 1987.

Jerry is survived by his wife Rita; daughter Shelly Sue Lachmann and husband Ken and grandson Austin of Cape Coral, F.L.; son Jerry Clifford Plattor Jr. (J.J.) and his wife Kathy and grandsons Jerry Clifford III (J.C.) and wife Brittnie and great-granddaughter Brynn Everly all of Round Rock, T.X., grandson Dustin Plattor and wife Taylor and soon-to-be great-grandson Kase Ryan of Lubbock, T.X., grandson Kyle Plattor of Marietta, G.A.; also foreign exchange student Jonas Plitt of Ashville, N.C. and loving friend Shannon Gomez of Artesia as well as caregivers Helen Aguilar, Karla Guerrero and Norma Renteria.

He was preceded in death by his parents Cliff and Oleta Plattor.

Honorary pallbearers wil be his grandsons J.C., Dustin, Kyle, Austin and Jerry Butts, Bill Gray, Jessie Hilliard and Howard Morton.
