Richard A. Steuer, age 81, of Lake Dalecarlia / Lowell, Indiana, formerly of Crown Point and Cedar Lake, Indiana, passed away on Monday, February 27, 2012 at his home.

Richard is survived by his sons: David (Beth) Steuer of Crown Point, Indiana and Daniel Steuer of Wheatfield, Indiana; daughters: Donna (Gary) Sorge of Lawrenceburg, Indiana and Dawn (Michael) Witte of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren: Erica Courtney, Jon Steuer, Richard Sorge, Laura Sorge, and Christine Witte; great-grandchildren: Karli and Conner Courtney; brother: Arnold (Lorraine) Steuer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his: brothers: Carl, Milford, Robert, and Irvin; and sisters: Florence and Betty Lou. Richard grew up in Cedar Lake in a large family and raised his own family on Hermits Lake in Crown Point, Indiana.

He was a lineman at NIPSCO for 35 years and upon retirement, lived part-time in Rio Hondo, Texas on the Arroyo River. True to his nature, it was a haven for fishing and wildlife. He could fix anything and built and wired his own homes, as well as others.

Richard was always there to help and conversation was never dull. A friend to many, he was also an avid golfer and lifetime employee and member at Oak Knoll Golf Course in Crown Point, Indiana. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre (2 blocks east of Broadway) at 606 East 113th Avenue, Crown Point, Indiana from 3:00 to 6:00 PM.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 6:00 PM at Geisen Funeral-Cremation & Reception Centre in Crown Point, IN with Fr. James Wozniak officiating. Services will conclude at the funeral home with cremation to follow.
