Lorine Bennett Cooper, 90, of Lester, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, in Princeton Community Hospital following a short illness. Born Sept. 12, 1910, in Sandy Level, Va., she was the daughter of the late Rev. George L. and Fannie Linthicum Bennett. Mrs. Cooper was a homemaker and a resident of Lester for many years. She was an active member, secretary, treasurer and stewardess of St. Matthew AME Church, Lester. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shuler Cooper; two daughters, Deanna Sharon and Ruth Presley; two sons, Thomas Lee and Dallas O'Brian; a stepson, Henry; six sisters, Lillie Clements, Nettie McKinney, Virginia MacDonald, Naomi Turner, Roberta Haynes and Hettie Simmons; and two brothers, Clarence and Lester Bennett. Survivors include eight sons, Clarence Cooper and his wife, Annie, of Toledo, Ohio, Victor Cooper of Tucker, Ga., Gregory and Roger Cooper of Lester, Roy Lee "Jack" Pogue of Detroit, Sim Cooper and his wife, Daisy, of Jacksonville, Fla., Otis Cooper and his wife, Sade, of Lester and Carl Cooper of Chicago; five daughters, Josephine Wallace of Low Moor, Va., Delores Hubbard and her husband, George, of Rainelle, Brenda Wally of Landover, Md., Drema Waldon and her husband, Lance, of Landover and Gloria Cooper of Lester; four sisters, Edmonia Hoover of Beckley, Eleanor Mitchell of Bluefield, Willie Duren of California and Lucy Smoot of Madison; 80 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives; and a special friend, Irene Williams of Cleveland. Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Heart of God Ministries, Beckley, with the Rev. Abner Wright, Bishop Fred T. Simms and Marsha Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call one hour before service Tuesday at the church. Arrangements by Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley, WV.
