Son of Louis & Anna (Stepanek) Burger.
He attended District #45 grade school and graduated from Leigh High School in 1951. Ralph was active in high school sports and activities. After graduating from high school, Ralph entered the US Navy and served during the Korean War from 1951 - 1954. He served on a Rescue Craft and did tours of duty in Japan and Hawaii. After his honorable discharge, Ralph worked for Beck Construction Company and then went to work for Douglas & Lomason in Columbus where he retired in 1997.

Ralph was united in marriage to Julia Benes on May 3, 1959 at the Congregational Church in Leigh. They made their permanent home in Leigh. Ralph was a sports enthusiast, enjoying the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Leigh Panthers. He enjoyed doing carpentry work and reading western novels. Ralph was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and the Leigh American Legion.
