Melvin Guggisberg, 91, of New Ulm died Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, March 13, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4 – 6 PM Tuesday and 7:30 - 10 AM Wednesday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. The St. John’s Court of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the St. Joseph’s-St. Elizabeth’s Catholic United will pray a combined rosary at 5 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Melvin is survived by his wife, Dorothy Guggisberg; daughter, Donna Guggisberg (Tim Schultz); son, Jerome (Jane) Guggisberg; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; son-in-law, John Roiger; sisters, Florence (Clarence) Mohr, Esther (Ralph) Schaefer, Marion (Ken) Havemeier; brothers, Wallace (Louise) Guggisberg, Robert (JoAnn) Guggisberg; sisters-in-law, Aurelia Guggisberg, JoAnn Guggisberg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Susan Roiger; and by his brothers, Harold and Richard Guggisberg.

Melvin Henry Guggisberg was born March 14, 1921 in Sigel Township, Brown County to Louis and Viola (Boettger) Guggisberg. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Manderfeld on February 28, 1946 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage they farmed in Sigel Township until they retired in 1987. They moved to New Ulm in 1988. Melvin served as the Sigel Township Clerk for 27 years, Vice President of St. Joseph’s Catholic Aid and on the Minnesota Valley Breeder’s Association Board. Melvin enjoyed helping his brothers farm after his retirement.

He was a member of the Cathedral Parish, Catholic United and Catholic Order of Foresters.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the donor’s choice.
