Sophia R. Andersen, the daughter of Dick and Doris Drager Horstmann, was born on a farm near Primghar, Iowa on May 23,1895. She attended schools in Center Township near her childhood home.

She was united in marriage to John Andersen at Primghar on June 30,1914. They lived at Primghar and Gaza, Iowa, then lived in Altadena, Calif, for about seventeen years before returning to live in Sutherland.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sutherland, and always enjoyed the outdoors, raising flowers and gardening.

She passed away at the Sheldon Community Hospital in Sheldon, Iowa on Feb. 19, 1977 at the age of 81. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband in 1959 and a son, John in 1964.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughers, Mrs. Hazel Williams and Mrs. Henry (Jerrie) Kressin, both of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Jerry (Doris) Craun of Sheldon, Iowa; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lena Braunschweig of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Hattie Horstmann of Sutherland, Iowa, as well as other relatives and friends.
