Regina Rose (Michels) Hoffmann of Munich, ND, passed away July 31, 2017, at Eventide Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake in the loving care of her family and Hospice.

Regina, daughter of Hubert and Katie (Athmann) Michels, was born November 26, 1921, at Munich; the 10th child of a family of twelve. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Munich High School. After graduation Regina worked as a housekeeper for area families, the Rugby Catholic parsonage and a family home in Devils Lake. For many harvest seasons she and her sister, Mathilda, worked in the cook car for the Michels Threshing Company. Regina married Aloysius (A.C.) Hoffmann on June 15, 1943, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She always said their marriage was blessed because there were three priests presiding! After their wedding, she and A.C. lived with his parents in their large home outside of Munich until the fall of 1944 when they moved to a farm NW of Munich. The interesting thing about this farm was that years ago the cook car was parked in this yard next to an old house and her sister, Mathilda, jokingly remarked that someday she would live there! It was there that A.C. and Regina remained and raised their family until A.C.’s death in 1985. The following year Regina moved into her new home in Munich, built by her sons, David and Brian. There she enjoyed her home, yard and neighbors until moving into Heartland Assisted Living in Devils Lake in October, 2013, and then to Eventide Heartland Care Center in April, 2017.

Regina was a person of many talents. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to quilt for her family and missions. Her kitchen was always filled with the smell of homemade baked goods. Her family’s favorites were her pies, doughnuts, bread and homemade egg noodles. Regina’s hobbies also included baking and decorating cakes for all occasions; too numerous to count. Regina was a longtime Minnesota Twins fan, something she inherited from her husband. She also loved to bowl and continued league play into her 80’s. Her Catholic faith was very important in her life, serving her parish in the Altar Society, Christian Mothers, choir, care of altar linens, flowers and leading the Rosary before masses.

Regina is preceded in death by her husband, infant son, James, parents, brothers Norbert, Alphonse, Walter, Arthur and Edwin Michels; sisters: Annie Schommer, Lena Nosbusch, Eleanor Schuler, Veronica Schuler and Mathilda Weber.

Regina is survived by her children: Paulette (Robert) Shimer, Deerfield, IL, Glenn (Diane) Hoffmann, Leeds ND, Jane (Fred) Wirth, Fargo, ND, Audrey (Dave) Myklebust, Devils Lake, ND, David Hoffmann, Munich, ND, Cheryl (Brad) Angen, Mayville, ND, and Brian (Sharon) Hoffmann, Munich, ND. She is survived by 19 grandchildren: Grant and Kevin (Melissa) Shimer, Robyn and Nathan (Jakelle Cornell) Hoffmann, Michael (Melissa), Jamie (Karin) and Marnie Wirth, Emily (Anthony) Bottini and Fr. Steven Wirth, Jill (Dan) Van Winkle, Jeff (Trisha), Neil (Kayla) and Patrick (Tiffany) Myklebust, Jodi (Charlie Collins), Mallory and Cory Angen, Alex, Katie and Kari Hoffmann and 15 great-grandchildren: Quinton Vonesh, Tatum Wirth, Anthony, Eleanor and Henry Bottini, Lauren and Taylor Van Winkle, Wyatt, Casyn, Emersyn, Brady, Aaliyah and Liam Myklebust, Dylan Ryan and Silas Collins. Regina is also survived by her brother, Roman Michels, Langdon, ND, and sisters-in-law Euphelia Michels, Madelyn Hoffmann, Margaret Haugen, Mary Frances Becker, Sister Philip Zimmer, Agnes (Joe) Hanigan and brother-in-law, Eugene (Sharon) Zimmer.
