Begg took over the management of Gilbert's farm at Dinning in Closeburn parish, when his brother-in-law became factor of the estate in Morham Muir in East Lothian.
Begg later became land steward on the estate of Blackwood in Lanarkshire, which belonged to Mr James Hope Vere.
On her husband's death in 1813, after he had been thrown from his horse, Isabella went first to Ormiston in East Lothian, then to a cottage in Tranent, and finally settled at Bridge House, Alloway, where she died, and in the churchyard of which she is buried.
She supplied various Burns enthusiasts with recollections of her life with her famous brother.
She had six sons and three daughters.
