Fred "Fritz" Bienek, 72, of Harvey, Tuesday, November 5, 1991 at the St. Aloisius Medical Center. Funeral services were held on Friday at the United Methodist Church with burial in Sunnyside Cemetery, both Harvey.

He was born June 3, 1919 at Drake to Fred and Nellie Bienek. The family moved to Harvey in 1925 where he grew up and attended school. In August 1940 he started working for the Soo Line Railroad as a brakeman.

In 1941 he joined the National Guard's 164th Anti-Tank Company in Harvey. The unit was later activated and stationed in the South Pacific where he took part in the Quadalcanal and Bougainville campaigns.

After his discharge in July, 1945, he resumed working with the Soo Line Railroad.

He married Frances Hirschkorn on January 22, 1947 in Harvey. The lived in Harvey. He retired as a conductor on the Soo Line in 1978.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles Aerie, all of Harvey, and the United Transportation Union.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Tracy of Martin and Paul of Bismarck; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Bert (Gladys) Miller, Harvey, Mrs. Virl (Evelyn) Stafford, Citrus Heights, Calif.; and one step-sister, Colleen Alme of St. Paul, Minn.
